Using colonial tax records as a proxy for institutional strength, this study suggests a strong correlation between the latter and economic prosperity in GDP per capita.

Peruvian Mita Case

From public Peruvian Mita data on resource exploitation, population, and boundaries we can assess how forced labor affected economic outcomes for otherwise identical populations.

Chinese Tea and Development

Controlling by region, we examine how laws in inner China have affected population outcomes. Surprisingly, a preliminary analysis suggests that women are born disproportionately in areas with high tea output.
